If you had asked me a year ago what I'd be up to this summer, it definitely would not have been spending my whole summer in my small hometown, however welcome to 2020 where nothing goes according to plan! After the devastating news of theaters being shut down due to COVID-19, thus cancelling all of my performing jobs, I decided to hold a small Broadway Bootcamp of my own in the safety of my parents home. Since most summer camps had also been cancelled, kids (and parents!) were very eager to attend as I was blessed to have over 25 students for my 2 week camp, where I had so much interest I had to turn kids away! We worked individually on a musical theater piece of their choosing, memorized lyrics, added choreography and even performed each number on the "stage" outside (in a socially distanced and masked manner), also known as my parents front porch. With playbills, microphones, and even a concession stand, we were able to really make them feel professional and I'm not sure who enjoyed it more, the kids or myself! As we're all told to to make lemonade when life gives you lemons, I truly enjoyed every sip and I am more than thankful for this time to stop and enjoy the simple things while getting to still be creative as well as spend time with those who matter most.
